Question :    If a cyclist covers a distance of 28 km in 7 hours, then how much distance will he cover in 5 hour? And what is his speed?

Correct Answer  distance = 20 kilometer & speed = 4 kilometer/hour

Solution & Explanation

Solution

Given, distance covers in 7 hour = 28 km

Thus, distance covered in 5 hour = ?

Calculation of speed using formula when time and distance is given

We know that

Speed = Distance/Time

Here, distance covered by the cyclist = 28 km

And, time taken to cover the distance = 7 hour

Thus, speed of the cyclist = 28 4 km/ 7 hour

= 4 km/h

= Thus, speed of the cyclist = 4 km/h

Calculation of distance using formula when time and speed is known

Here, speed = 4 km/h (As calculated above)

And, time = 5 hour (As given in the question)

We know that

Distance = Speed × Time

Thus, distance covered by the cyclist in the given time

= 4 km/h × 5 hour = 20 km

Thus, distance covered by the cyclist in 5 hour = 20 km

Thus, distance covered by the cyclist = 20 km and his speed = 4 km/h Answer

Calculation of speed using UNITARY METHOD when time and distance is given

Here, distance coverd = 28 km and time = 7 hour

∵ In 7 hour, the distance covered by the cyclist = 28 km

∴ In 1 hour, the distance covered by the cyclist

= 28 4 km/ 7 hour

= 4 km

Since the cyclist covers a distance of 4 km in 1 hour

Thus, the speed of the cyclist = 4 km/h

Calculation of distance using UNITARY METHOD when time and speed is known

Here, speed = 4 km/h (As calculated above)

And, time = 5 hour (As given in the question)

∵ In 1 hour, the distance covered by the cyclist = 4 km

∴ In 5 hour, the distance covered by the cylist

= 4 × 5 km = 20 km

Thus, distance covered by the cyclist = 20 km and his speed = 4 km/h Answer
