Question:     A car covers a distance of 350 km in 10 hours. Find the speed and distance covered in 8 hours by the given car.

Correct Answer  distance = 280 kilometer & speed = 35 kilometer/hour

Solution And Explanation

Solution

Given, distance covered by the given car = 350 km

And, time taken to covered the given distance of 350 km = 10 hours

Thus, distance covered by the given car in 8 hour = ?

Calculation of speed using formula when time and distance is given

We know that

Speed = Distance/Time

Here, distance covered by the car = 350 km

And, time taken to cover the distance = 10 hour

Thus, speed of the car = 350 35 km/ 10 hour

= 35 km/h

= Thus, speed of the car = 35 km/h

Calculation of distance using formula when time and speed is known

Here, speed of the car = 35 km/h (As calculated above)

And, time = 8 hour (As given in the question)

We know that

Distance = Speed × Time

Thus, distance covered by the car in the given time

= 35 km/h × 8 hour = 280 km

Thus, distance covered by the car in 8 hour = 280 km

Thus, distance covered by the cyclist = 280 km and his speed of the car = 35 km/h Answer

Calculation of speed using UNITARY METHOD when time and distance is given

Here, distance coverd by the car in 10 hours = 350 km

Thus, speed of the car = ?

To know the speed of the car, we need to find the distance covered by the car in 1 hour. This speed will be kilometer per hour.

∵ In 10 hour, the distance covered by the car = 350 km

∴ In 1 hour, the distance covered by the car

= 350 35 km/ 10 hour

= 35 km

Since the car covers a distance of 35 km in 1 hour

Thus, the speed of the car = 35 km/h

Calculation of distance using UNITARY METHOD when time and speed is known

Here, speed of the car = 35 km/h (As calculated above)

Thus, distance covers in 8 hour (As given in the question) = ?

∵ In 1 hour, the distance covered by the car = 35 km

∴ In 2 hour, the distance covered by the car = 35 × 2 km = 70 km

Similarly, in 3 hour (1 × 3 hour), the distance covered by the car = 35 × 3 km = 105 km

This means we need to multiply the distance covered in 1 hour by the distance covered in required time.

∴ In 8 hour, the distance covered by the cylist

= 35 × 8 km = 280 km

Thus, distance covered by the car = 280 km and his speed of the car = 35 km/h Answer
