Question:     By traveling a speed of 18 km/h, a bike completes a journey in 25 minute, then find the distance covered by him and how much time it will take cover a distance of 120 km?

Correct Answer  distance = 7.5 km & time = 6.33 hour

Solution And Explanation

Solution

Given, speed of the bike = 18 km/h

And, time to complete the journey = 25 minute

Then distance covered by him = ?

Then, the time to cover a distance of 120 km = ?

Calculation of distance using formula when time and speed are given

Here, time is given in the minute, so to find the distance when speed is given in km/h, we need to convert the time from minute to hour.

Thus, 25 minute = 25 5/60 12 hour

Thus, time = 5/12 hour

We know that

Distance = Speed × Time

Thus, distance covered by the bike in the given time

= 18 3 × 5/12 2 km

= 3 × 5/2 = 7.5 km

Thus, distance covered in the given time of 25 minute = 7.5 km

Calculation of the time using formula when distance and speed are given

We know that

Time = Distance/Speed

Here, distance = 120 km, and speed = 18 km/h

Thus, Time = 120 20/ 18 3 hour

= 20/3 hour

= 6 1/3 hour or 6.33 hour

Thus, distance covered in the given time = 7.5 km and time taken to cover the given distance = 6.33 hour Answer

Unitary Method: Calculation of distance when time and speed are given

Given, time to complete the journey = 25 minute

Given, speed of the bike = 18 km/h

As given speed = 18 km/h

This means the given bike covers a distance of 18 km in 1 hour, i.e. 60 minute

Now, ∵ In 60 minute the distance covered by the bike = 18 km

∴ In 1 minute, the distance covered by the bike = 18/60 km

∴ In 25 minute, the distance covered by the bike = 18/60 × 25 km

= 450/60 km = 7.5 km

Thus, distance covered by the bike in the given time = 7.5 km

Unitary Method: Calculation of time taken to cover the distance 120 with a speed of 18 km/h

∵ Time to cover a distance of 18 km by the bike = 1 hour

∴ Time to cover a distance of 1 km by the bike = 1/18 hour

∴ Time to cover a distance of 120 km by the bike = 1/18 × 120 hour = 6.33 hour

Thus, the time required to cover a distance of 120 km by the bike = 6.33 hour

Thus, distance covered in the given time = 7.5 km and time taken to cover the given distance = 6.33 hour Answer
