Question:     By running at a speed of 2 km/h how much distance an athlete will cover in 10 second?

Correct Answer  5.6 meter

Solution And Explanation

Solution

Given,

Speed = 2 km/h

Time = 10 second

Thus, distance = ?

Here the speed is given in the kilometer per hour while the time is in the second. So, for the ease of calculation, the speed should be converted into meter per second.

Conversion of the speed from kilometer per hour to meter per second

To convert kilometer per hour, the speed is multiplied by 5/18

Therefore, 2 km/h = 2 × 5/18 m/s

= 2 × 5/18 m/s

= 10/18 = 0.56 m/s

Thus, speed = 0.56 m/s

Calculation of distance using formula

Formula to calculate distance when speed and time are given

Distance = Speed × Time

⇒ Distance = 0.56 m/s × 10 s = 5.6 m

Thus, distance = 5.6 meter Answer

Calculation of distance using Unitary Method

∵ In 1 second the distance covered = 0.56 meter

∴ In 10 second, the distance covered = 0.56 m × 10 = meter

Thus, distance = 5.6 meter Answer
