Rational Numbers 7th Math
NCERT Exercise 9.1 Questions 4 & 5
In this section, we will learn to represent rational numbers on a number line. In the NCERT Exercise 9.1, question numbers 4 (i), (ii), (iii), and (iv) given rational numbers are to be represented on a number line. And in question number (5) rational numbers are to be written for the points denoted on the given number line.
Solution of NCERT Exercise 9.1 Question Number 4 and 5
Question (4) Draw the number line and represent the following rational numbers on it:
(i) 3/4
Solution :
Given, rational number = 3/4
Representation of the given rational number 3/4 on number line.
This rational number 3/4 will be represented on a number line on the 3rd part between 0 and 1. Since this is a positive rational number, so this will lie right from zero.
Question (4)(ii) ( – 5)/8
Solution :
Given, rational number = ( – 5)/8
Representation of given rational number ( – 5)/8 on number line.
This given rational number ( – 5)/8 has been represented on the left side from zero on a number line, on the 5th part out of 10 parts, between 0 and – 1. Since this is a negative rational number, so this lies left from zero.
Question (4) (iii) ( – 7)/4
Solution :
Given rational number is ( – 7)/4
( – 7)/4 = – 1 3/4
Representation of given rational number ( – 7)/4 or – 1 3/4 on number line.
This given rational number ( – 7)/4 has been represented on the left side from zero on a number line, on the 3rd part out of the 4 parts between –1 and –2. Since this is a negative rational number, so this lies left from zero
Question (4) (iv) 7/8
Solution :
Given rational number which is to be represented on a number line = 7/8
Representation of 7/8 on number line.
The rational number 7/8 has been represented on the right side from zero on a number line, on the 7 part out of 8 parts between 0 and 1. Since this is a negative rational number, so this lies right from zero
Question (5) The points P, Q, R, S, T, U, A and B on the number line are such that, TR = RS = SU and AP = PQ = QB. Name the rational numbers represented by P, Q, R and S.
Solution :
Given, TR = RS = SU and AP = PQ = QB
After observation of given image in the question, it is clear that,
P = 2 1/3 or 7/3
Q = 2 2/3 or 8/3
R = – 1 1/3 or – 4/3
And, S = – 1 2/3 or – 5/3 Answer
