Solved Questions -3

Calculation of Time when distance and speed are given

Formula to calculate time when distance and speed are given

Time = Distance/Speed

Question (1) In how much time a car will cover a distance of 500 kilo meter at a speed of 100 km per hour?

Solution

Given, Distance (s) = 500 km

Speed (v) = 100 km/h

Thus, Time (t) = ?

We know that, Time = Distance/Speed

Or, t = s/v

Where "t" = Time, "s" = Distance and "v" = Speed

= 500/100

= 5 hour

Thus, time taken by the given car = 5 hour Answer

Alternate Method (Unitary method) to calculate the time when distance and speed are given

Here given, speed = 100 per hour

This means a distance of 100 is covered in 1 hour.

∵ Time to cover a distance of 100 km by the given car = 1 hour

∴ Time to cover a distance of 1 km by the given car = 1/100 hour

∴ Time to cover a distance of 500 km by the given car = `1/100xx500` hour = 5 hour

Thus, Time to cover the distance of 500 km by the given car = 5 h Answer

Question (2) In what time a car running at a speed of 50 km/h will cover a distance of 100 km?

Solution

Given, Distance (s) = 100 km

Speed (v) = 50 km/h

Thus, time (t) = ?

We know that, Time = Distance/Speed

Or, t = s/v

Where "t" = Time, "s" = Distance and "v" = Speed

⇒ Time = 100/50

= 2 hour

Thus, time to cover the given distance = 2 hour Answer

Alternate Method (Unitary method) to calculate the time when distance and speed are given

Here given, speed = 50 km/h

This means a distance of 50 is covered in 1 hour.

∵ Time to cover a distance of 50 km by the given car = 1 hour

∴ Time to cover a distance of 1 km by the given car = 1/50 hour

∴ Time to cover a distance of 100 km by the given car = `1/50xx100` hour = 2 hour

Thus, Time to cover the distance of 100 km by the given car = 2 h Answer

Question (3) How much time a man will take to covers a distance of 20 kilo meter walking at a speed of 5 km per hour?

Solution

Given, Distance (s) = 20 km

Speed (v) = 5 km/h

Thus, time (t) = ?

We know that, Time = Distance/Speed

Or, t = s/v

Where "t" = Time, "s" = Distance and "v" = Speed

⇒ Time = 20/5

= 4 hour

Thus, time to cover the given distance = 4 hour Answer

Alternate Method (Unitary method) to calculate the time when distance and speed are given

Here given, speed = 5 km/h

This means a distance of 5 is covered in 1 hour.

∵ Time to cover a distance of 5 km = 1 hour

∴ Time to cover a distance of 1 km = 1/5 hour

∴ Time to cover a distance of 20 km = `1/5xx20` hour = 4 hour

Thus, Time to cover the distance of 20 km = 4 h Answer

Question (4) How much time a cyclist will take to covers a distance of 30 kilo meter going with a speed of 6 km per hour?

Solution

Given, Distance (s) = 30 km

Speed (v) = 6 km/h

Thus, time (t) = ?

We know that, Time = Distance/Speed

Or, t = s/v

Where "t" = Time, "s" = Distance and "v" = Speed

⇒ Time = 30/6

= 5 hour

Thus, time to cover the given distance = 5 hour Answer

Alternate Method (Unitary method) to calculate the time when distance and speed are given

Here given, speed = 6 km/h

This means a distance of 6 is covered in 1 hour.

∵ Time to cover a distance of 6 km = 1 hour

∴ Time to cover a distance of 1 km = 1/6 hour

∴ Time to cover a distance of 30 km = `1/6xx30` hour = 5 hour

Thus, Time to cover the distance of 30 km = 5 h Answer

Question (5) How much time a cyclist will take to covers a distance of 50 kilo meter going with a speed of 6.25 km per hour?

Solution

Given, Distance (s) = 50 km

Speed (v) = 6.25 km/h

Thus, time (t) = ?

We know that, Time = Distance/Speed

Or, t = s/v

Where "t" = Time, "s" = Distance and "v" = Speed

⇒ Time = 50/6.25

= 8 hour

Thus, time to cover the given distance = 8 hour Answer

Alternate Method (Unitary method) to calculate the time when distance and speed are given

Here given, speed = 6.25 km/h

This means a distance of 6.25 is covered in 1 hour.

∵ Time to cover a distance of 6.25 km = 1 hour

∴ Time to cover a distance of 1 km = 1/6.25 hour

∴ Time to cover a distance of 50 km = `1/6.25xx50` hour = 8 hour

Thus, Time to cover the distance of 50 km = 8 h Answer

Question (6) If a bus is running with a speed of 50 km/h, then in how much time it will covers a distance of 500 kilo meter?

Solution

Given, Distance (s) = 500 km

Speed (v) = 50 km/h

Thus, time (t) = ?

We know that, Time = Distance/Speed

Or, t = s/v

Where "t" = Time, "s" = Distance and "v" = Speed

⇒ Time = 500/50

= 10 hour

Thus, time to cover the given distance = 10 hour Answer

Alternate Method (Unitary method) to calculate the time when distance and speed are given

Here given, speed = 50 km/h

This means a distance of 50 is covered in 1 hour.

∵ Time to cover a distance of 50 km = 1 hour

∴ Time to cover a distance of 1 km = 1/50 hour

∴ Time to cover a distance of 500 km = `1/50xx500` hour = 10 hour

Thus, Time to cover the distance of 500 km = 10 h Answer

Question (7) If a taxi is running with a speed of 80 km per hour, then in how much time it will covers a distance of 2000 kilo meter?

Solution

Given, Distance (s) = 2000 km

Speed (v) = 80 km/h

Thus, time (t) = ?

We know that, Time = Distance/Speed

Or, t = s/v

Where "t" = Time, "s" = Distance and "v" = Speed

⇒ Time = 2000/80

= 25 hour

Thus, time to cover the given distance = 25 hour Answer

Alternate Method (Unitary method) to calculate the time when distance and speed are given

Here given, speed = 80 km/h

This means a distance of 80 is covered in 1 hour.

∵ Time to cover a distance of 80 km = 1 hour

∴ Time to cover a distance of 1 km = 1/80 hour

∴ Time to cover a distance of 2000 km = `1/80xx2000` hour = 25 hour

Thus, Time to cover the distance of 2000 km = 25 h Answer
